what we do

PNA Center for Neurological Research

The goal of our center is to have a place where philanthropist, advocates, organizations and family and friends of patients with a Neurological illness could donate monetary funds which can support Investigator initiated clinical trials. By having funds, we could optimize proper treatments in order to improve outcomes for patients with neurological diseases.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) symptoms

brain scanMultiple Sclerosis symptoms are varied, resulting from damage to different parts of the central nervous system. Symptoms generally appear between the ages of 20 and 40. The onset of MS may be dramatic or so mild that a person doesn't even notice any symptoms until far later in the course of the disease.

The most common early symptoms of MS include:

  • Tingling
  • Numbness
  • Loss of balance
  • Weakness in one or more limbs
  • Blurred or double vision

Less common symptoms of MS may include

  • Slurred speech
  • Sudden onset of paralysis
  • Lack of coordination
  • Cognitive difficulties

As the disease progresses, other symptoms may include muscle spasms, sensitivity to heat, fatigue, changes in thinking or perception, and sexual disturbances. The disease is diagnosed through a combination of assessing a patient’s symptoms, performing a neurological examination and laboratory testing. MRI scans of the brain show areas involved with the inflammation. Lumbar punctures may be performed to look at the disease activity in the spinal fluid. Visual evoked potentials testing may be used to study the quality of the main nerve that controls vision (the optic nerve).
